SWEDISH ATTITUDES TO ROAD TRAFFIC AND TRAFFIC SAFETY: AN OVERVIEW AS A BACKGROUND TO INTERNATIONAL COMPARISONS

Sweden took part, via VTI, in the international SARTRE-project which aimed at giving general descriptions of car drivers' attitudes to various road traffic and traffic safety issues. The investigation was carried out as personal interviews with drivers in about 16 European countries, giving a total of more than 17,000 interviews in the data base. The Swedish substudy included 1,266 interviews with a representative sample of car drivers. In this paper the results of the interviews have been summarized as distributions of response frequencies for each question, and some results have also been selected for a somewhat closer analysis and comment.
