Printed broadband dipole antenna with tapered arms for multi-band applications

A printed dipole antenna with broad band is proposed for modern wireless communication systems, which sufficiently covers the DCS, PCS, TD-SCDMA (A+B+C), and WLAN bands. The antenna has two tapered arms fed by an integrated balun, leading to a broad impedance bandwidth. Moreover, triangular-shaped grounds are designed for the antenna, which improves the impedance bandwidth effectively. A prototype is constructed and tested. The simulated and measured results demonstrate that the enhanced impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna reaches 1022MHz (1632–2654MHz, 48%). Good radiation performances over the operating band are observed. Parametric study of arm sizes is also performed to provide more information for the antenna design.
