Multi-infeed HVDC transmission systems in Yangtze River Delta region and local reactive power support

Along with the further development of hydropower resources of the west and the pattern of "West-East Power Transmission" gradually formed, the power exchange would be more heavy.A typical multi-infeed HVDC system will be formed soon in the Yangtze River Delta region, its large transmission capacity and the intensive placement are very rare in the world. The paper points out that there may be a static or dynamic reactive power problem in the multi-infeed HVDC system, due to the complex interactions between AC and DC systems,DC and DC systems, respectively. As lack of adequate reactive support, several DC systems may involve in fault simultaneously or successively, which will threaten the safety of the power systems operation. For the practical engineering issues of static and dynamic reactive power demand in the multi-infeed HVDC system, this paper will discuss the situation and propose the appropriate research methods and ideas.
