Pattern Recognition in EEG

The term ‘pattern recognition’ requires definition as a variety of meanings is currently in use. Even within a single discipline there may exist several kinds of processes to which the name pattern recognition’ is applied. As the term suggests, there are two concepts to be considered. Firstly, the definition of a pattern and, secondly the manner of its recognition or detection. Three alternative definitions are now presented, as a basis for discussion, but it is recognised that further kinds of pattern exist.
