Team functions were used to define the concept of “teamwork” within small military units and to describe process changes in mission execution as teams trained for competition. As teams became more proficient, their functional profiles changed to reflect better distribution of member and equipment resources, and the behaviors used to cue the functions shifted to more implicit team member interactions as opposed to interactions guided by verbal and nonverbal directives.
