Folding and binding: implementing the game plan

Alan works on the structure, activity, stability and folding of proteins using a wide range of experimental techniques, from molecular to structural biology and especially advanced kinetic methods. His current interests are fundamental studies on understanding the pathway and stability of folding of simple model proteins, and the application of the principles derived from such studies to understanding protein misfolding and disease, especially the effects of mutations on the tumour suppressor p53. He has had a long collaboration with Valerie in combining experiment with simulation to describe protein folding and unfolding pathways at atomic resolution.
