A Quantitative Analysis of L2 Listening Comprehension Processes: A Duration Data Model Approach

The aim of this study is to offer a quantitative analysis of the time needed by students to understand different types of oral comprehension items involved in second language (L2) listening processes. The duration data models will allow us to focus on this fundamental variable, analyzing the time and degree of acquisition of the different linguistic oral comprehension items. Also, this approach lets us identify those subskills which take longer to be understood and some factors conditioning the time needed in these processes. Consequently, knowing the time required by learners to successfully achieve effective comprehension could potentially have important implications for the language teaching/learning processes.
