Algorithm for optimal control of microbiological synthesis

At present it is impossible to present an exact mathematical description of the process of microbiological synthesis. Any control model becomes nonoptimal after a while since the selected model constants undergo changes. Thus for the control of the process it is necessary to choose a simple mathematical model (Monod, Monod-Ierusalimskii, etc.) and periodically correct the values of constants. In this way it is possible to control the process. Three aspects of this problem are considered. First, various methods of evaluation of the accuracy of the Monod and Monod-Ierusalimskii equation constants are dealt with. The accuracy of the calculated constants is estimated. Second, several examples of the optimization for these models are discussed. Third, an algorithm for optimal control is described which quickly enables the corrected point to be obtained. These complex problems are solved with the aid of computers and the algorithms presented.
