Reactor performance with periodic flow reversal for a multistep complex reaction

Analysis of a triangular network reaction scheme taking place in a packed-bed reactor is carried out under conditions of periodic flow reversal. The analysis indicates that better conversions and selectivities for lower gas inlet temperatures are possible compared to the conventional unidirectional flow operation. The effects on reactor performance as a function of cycling time for periodic flow reversal show the existence of an optimum value.
