Seismic Performance of Accelerated Construction Bridge Piers for Urban Maglev

This paper investigates the seismic behavior of a prefabricated composite column built by onsite assembling of precast composite column segments to accelerate bridge construction. For this purpose, a quasi static cyclic loading test was performed on a prefabricated composite column with connection details. Test results show that the onsite connection behaves elastically without occurrence of slip despite the formation of plastic hinge in the column. The test results also indicate that the prefabricated composite column exhibits better overall seismic capacity compared to conventional reinforced concrete columns with seismic details.
