Performance analysis of micro hotplate based metal oxide nanowire gas sensor

Increase in the emission of hazardous and toxic gases from vehicles, industries, etc. has led to the increase in environmental pollution. An exposure to these gases even in trace level will cause serious health issue and is threatening for day to day life. Hence, detection and taking corrective measures for reducing the gases is of utmost significance. Metal oxide semiconductor based sensors are widely used for gas sensing due to low cost and low power consumptions. In this paper, we have simulated a zinc oxide nanowire based gas sensor for detecting carbon monoxide gas as it is the most common fatal air poisoning gas in many countries. The response of the zinc oxide nanowires to carbon monoxide gas was monitored and evaluated the surface resistance with respect to the concentration and operating temperature.
