A novel cost function for cascaded connection of adaptive array and MLSE

Assuming single user detection, a cascaded connection of adaptive array and MLSE is expected as a simple and suboptimal receiver tolerant to interference and multipath fading. However, the conventional cascading scheme has the problem that it can not utilize the energy of delayed paths efficiently since the power of delayed paths is not considered in the cost function. In this paper, a novel cost function based on the idea of maximizing the output SINR is proposed and the performance of both the proposed and the conventional type is evaluated by computer simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed type is superior to the conventional one in the BER performance and that the degradation compared to that of array processing MLSE is small.
