Does scaffold architecture influence oxygen gradients in cartilaginous tissue engineered constructs

The oxygen gradients in cartilaginous tissue engineering constructs were evaluated. Spatial distributions of cells within constructs were determined from DAPI stained histological sections using image analysis. The scaffolds were produced using either a compression molding (CM)/salt leaching or 3D fiber deposition (3DF) techniques. The results show that 3DF constructs contain significantly more cartilaginous tissue and cells in the center.
