The authors discuss using multimedia technology to support conversation in a classroom. They characterize conversational communication by its rapid and relatively informal exchange of ideas. The research reported has four parts: teacher interviews, classroom observation, iterative construction of software for planning and delivering classroom lessons, and observation of teachers' use of the software. The design and use of a prototype tool for supporting school teachers in multimedia classroom conservations is described.<<ETX>>
