Design of hydromechanical transmission using network analysis

Abstract A systematic approach to the design of a three-shaft hydromechanical transmission (HMT) is proposed. The three-shaft HMT is classified into 12 basic configurations depending on the planetary gear position connected with the hydrostatic unit (HSU) at the input and the output shafts. The power and speed characteristics are investigated for 12 configurations of the three-shaft HMT using network analysis. Based on the results of the network analysis of the three-shaft HMT, design examples are proposed in a systematic way, which limit the circulation power and allow synchronous clutch operation. It is expected that the design methodology suggested in this study can be used in developing the three-shaft HMT to meet power and speed requirements.
