Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF) Spectroscopy for In Situ Analysis of Petroleum Products and Biological Oils in Soils

Abstract The in situ and on-line capabilities of laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) spectroscopy in environmental analysis are demonstrated throughout this paper. The results of in situ LIF analysis of 30 petroleum product contaminated soil samples is presented and compared to the results of a standard method. It is shown that LIF spectroscopy is an useful analytical tool for the analysis and the monitoring of migration processes of biological oils in soils.
