A Differentiated QoS Approach for meeting Real Time Requirements by Web Servers within Industrial Ecosystems

Distributed manufacturing facilities and distributed provision of services require a strong IT infrastructure that is Web based to be cost effective and flexible. However, it is important to provide the ability for such Web based distributed industrial informatics systems to meet hard real time deadlines in the presence of considerable uncertainty. To do this in a realistic manner, we propose a differentiated QoS approach which separates functions and services that are performed into different classes including mandatory services and optional services. The mandatory services have strong hard real time requirements, whist the optional services can be serviced with weak hard real time requirements. The framework, structure, and scheduling strategies are given in this paper. Experimental results demonstrate proof of concepts.
