Method and apparatus for resource allocation for uplink synchronization channel for frequency division multiple access system

A method and an apparatus for allocating resources of an uplink synchronous channel in an FDMA(Frequency Division Multiple Access) system are provided to obtain such effect that an overall overhead becomes the same regardless of a cell radius by lowering the overhead along a frequency axis as the overhead extends along time axis. Supportable uplink synchronous channel resource information determined in consideration of a cell radius of base stations belonging to an FDMA system are stored. Resource information to be used according to the cell radius among the stored uplink synchronous channel resource information is determined. The determined uplink synchronous channel resource information or the cell radius information is transmitted to a terminal. An uplink synchronous channel is received from the terminal via the determined synchronous channel resource. A timing adjustment with respect to the terminal is determined by using the received uplink synchronous channel, and the determined timing adjustment value is transmitted to the terminal.
