Correlation between Individual Characteristic and Hearing Threshold Value on Workers in PT Bangun Sarana Baja Gresik

Abstract One of the hazard caused by steel fabrication is noise that could cause hearing loss. The aimed of this study is to analyze correlation between individual characteristic and hearing threshold value on workers in PT Bangun Sarana Baja, Gresik (study on warehouse 4 and 5 PT Bangun Sarana Baja). This study used cross sectional design. Population of this study  are workers  on warehouse 4 and 5 PT Bangun Sarana Baja consists of 47 people. Sample are 34 people that drawn  by purposive sampling with criteria. Noise  measurement on warehouse 4 and  5 showed that the  score higher than Threshold Limit Value (TLV) (94,88–96,01 dB). Audiometric measurement showed that 19 from 34 samples had abnormal  hearing threshold value (> 25 dB). Test with Chi Square showed that there are no correlation between individual characteristic with the hearing threshold value that caused by noise (p > 0.05). Conclusion from this study are noise in warehouse 4 and 5 are beyond the TLV and a lot of workers have abnormal hearing threshold. From the result of this study  found  that there are no correlation between individual characteristic and hearing threshold value on workers in PT Bangun Sarana Baja. It is necessary to controlled the noise  by install noise  reducer in work place  and increased disclipined of workers  to use  ear protection appropriately.  Advanced research about  factors  that caused hearing  loss caused by noise  are needed.
