Efficient Probabilistic Structural Analysis Using an Advanced Mean Value Method

An advanced mean-value (AMV) method for probabilistic structural analysis is presented. This method blends the conventional mean value method with the advanced structural reliability analysis method. The method, which does not require iterations, provides much improved accuracy over the conventional mean value method; therefore, it is particularly suitable for complicated structural response analysis that requires time-consuming computer solutions. Also, a procedure is proposed to establish the distribution function (CDF) using the AMV method. The CDF is computed at selected points based on the Gauss-Hermite quadrature formula. The moments can be computed using these points. The points can also be fitted using a special CDF curve. The procedure is demonstrated with an example.
