Design of a general purpose platform for easy setup of low-cost remote laboratories in electronics

A design specification for a remote laboratory platform for electronics laboratories is presented which gives the user an easy setup, a large freedom in reconfiguration and a low cost solution. The system is designed around a motherboard with connectors for standardized add-on boards that constitute the configurable components in the laboratory circuit. The solution is designed to in a natural way facilitate the creation a remote laboratory from the prototyping level up to a permanent installation. The acquisition hardware can be chosen freely by the user both during development and after the creation of the lab, without extensive changes to the hardware setup. This paper presents both the design of the motherboard, various designs for add on cards and shows how to configure the setup.
