17 The generation and perception of vibration from rail traffic

Wayside vibrations caused by trains on main line railways has been investigated both in field and laboratory studies. Initial results have suggested a measure of vibration dose which seems to correlate well with subjective responses to railway vibrations imposed in a laboratory. The frequency weighting and the form of integration in the 'dose', when combined with features of the generation process revealed experimentally, suggest the extent and form of remedial measures.
