A data base containing spectral data of materials for creating realistic images - Part 1., Theoretical background

This is one of a series of technical reports planned about the author''s research work aimed at fulfilling the requirements of his PhD thesis. Selected material property data published in [6] has been typed, and organized into a "SPECTRAL DATA BASE" for use in producing realistic images of 3D objects and scenes by computer. This report describes the theoretical background for the interpretation and use of these data. Two further reports are planed to contain the data themselves (in two volumes and in a limited number of copies). At present the author''s PhD studies are supported by an exchange agreement between the Academies of Sciences of Bulgaria and Hungary.
