Real-time ratings for a 115 kV submarine cable system

This paper describes the implementation of a real-time monitoring and rating system on an existing self-contained oil-filled submarine cable circuit. The rating system's instrumentation and the thermal and hydraulic models used to monitor the cable system's status and provide real-time ratings are discussed. The overall monitoring and rating system architecture and its integration into the utility's LAN/WAN system for direct data access by all interested departments is also described.
