This paper focuses on relevant developments in information and communications technology (ICT) and how these technologies and methodologies can assist government in providing e-government to its citizens. This paper looks at the role of the Department of An Taoiseach as our egovernment sponsor with a review of the relevant national and international literature followed by a description of its initiatives, developments, problems, successes and perceived future requirements.
Its focus will also be to identify, evaluate and share the latest information on new ideas and initiatives being introduced internationally, which are both appropriate to Irish conditions and could demonstrate how customer needs can be achieved more effectively using information and communications technologies (ICT).
It will also look at current initiatives at promoting an information society and how organisational culture can facilitate change.
