A Pilot Protection Scheme for Active Distribution Network with Inverter Interfaced Distributed Generation

Based on the analysis of the characteristics of the fault current and the influence on the traditional current protection scheme of the inverted interfaced distributed generation, a pilot protection scheme of active distribution network based on current fault component direction is proposed. The fault section is judged by collecting current amplitude and phase information of circuit breakers, and then the relevant circuit breakers are controlled to remove the fault section. The scheme has the advantages of no action current setting and adaptive topology of distribution network. It can solve the problem of the weak feed of the traditional pilot protection scheme in the distribution network to a certain extent. Finally, the proposed protection scheme is simulated in PSCAD/EMTDC. The simulation results show that the proposed protection scheme has good adaptability to the active distribution network.
