A Boost Driver With an Improved Charge-Pump Circuit

This paper proposes a boost driver with an improved charge-pump (CP) circuit. The CP circuit includes electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) that can keep their voltages at a constant level during motor acceleration and deceleration. By changing the connection between the EDLCs and a supply source with electrical switches in the CP circuit, the driver can adjust its dc link voltage to three voltage levels. The voltage regulator of the driver uses a space-vector modulation (SVM) technique. Space-vector diagrams to adjust the dc link voltage in the driver are proposed. The driver operated in the SVM technique using the proposed diagrams can reduce the harmonics in the output and charge the EDLCs during motor drive operation. Experiments confirm that the driver can control the motor with the same performance level as the conventional boost driver and can maintain its performance level continuously.
