Implications of "New" Literacies for Writing Research.

This paper presents a way of looking at research in terms of its "logic" such that it is possible to identify some implications of "new" literacies for research in the area of writing. The paper begins by presenting a diagrammatic view of the logic of research and then moves on to a preliminary account of how people think of "new" in relation to new literacies. On the basis of this conception of "the new" the paper then briefly outlines some of the practices identified as "new" literacies in the book "New Literacies: Changing Knowledge and Classroom Learning" (Lankshear and Knobel, 2003). Finally, the paper draws on examples of these new literacies to suggest some of the kinds of things they may imply for developing approaches to and programs for writing research.
