Confidence limits for liberation measurements

Abstract Several methods are proposed for the calculation of confidence limits of liberation measurements made on ore particles. The methods are of particular importance for results obtained using automatic image analysis systems. Firstly, the computationally intensive “bootstrap” technique was applied to provide a definitive answer. Then several analytical solutions were developed and tested against the bootstrap results for some mineral samples. The agreement was good in all cases, and a simple equation is presented and recommended for general use.
