Energy Efficient Hierarchical Reliable Transport Protocol in Wireless Sensor Networks

The two important requirements in Wireless Senor Networks (WSNs) are end-to-end reliability and maximization of the network lifetime. Sensor nodes are energy constrained in nature. Therefore, energy efficient communication techniques and reliable delivery of the sensed data to the base-station (BS) are necessary. Maximum energy is consumed during transmission in comparison to data sensing. Redundant data increases the energy consumption during data transmission. In this paper, we propose an Energy Efficient Hierarchical Reliable Transport Protocol (EEHRTP) for reliable data transmission within the WSN. The objective of this study is to maximize the network lifetime by controlling the redundant data transmission with the co-ordination of the base-station. Performance evaluation via simulation experiments shows that the proposed protocol performs better than the existing protocols in terms of reliabilty and energy efficiency.
