Apparatus and method for controlling power in a transmitter

The present invention relates to a device and a method for controlling the bias voltage of a power amplifier (PA) included in a transmitting device of a wireless communication system. The transmitting device estimates a peak to average power ratio (PAPR) when a signal is transmitted using background information set for communication in the transmitting device and controls the bias voltage of the power amplifier based on the estimated PAPR. As a result, the present invention reduces the total power consumption at the transmitting device by controlling the power consumption due to the power amplifier according to the communication situations as well as the skips calculation due to PAPR calculation, control, and buffering as there is no need to calculate the PAPR in real time to control the bias voltage of the power amplifier.
