Pothole increase has been observed due to the internal factor such as poor responsiveness and durability of pavement material itself on climate change, such as heavy rainfall and snowfall, as well as externally, insufficient of quality management system and failure of construction management. Also, it is necessary to minimize potential problems that can occur in pavement construction phase in order to obtain the effect of new materials and methods that have been studied for inhibiting pothole generation. However, in Korea, current asphalt pavement construction is conducted through a manual site survey and an empirical quality management without a standardized initial quality assurance system. Also, it is realistically hard to use expensive quality control equipment and reinforce the quality control personnel. The purpose of this study is to develop a smart terminal system of compaction equipment for quality control of asphalt pavement construction that can effectively conduct the quality control of the mixture during the compaction of the asphalt pavement at a low cost without additional labor input. The driver can monitor compaction temperature, compaction direction, and number of compaction in real-time through the developed intelligent compaction terminal system and UI (User Interface) program.
