Compressive Strength of Boron-Epoxy Composites

The compressive strength of fibrous composites is strongly de pendent upon the effectiveness of the matrix in supporting the fibers against buckling. Proper support of boron filaments by an epoxy matrix has resulted in average compressive fiber stresses of as high as 1,330,000 psi at failure. Experimental data obtained from two epoxy matrix systems (AF-126 and BP-907) is in good agreement with a modi fied two-dimensional theory for fiber buckling.
