Review of the Quantum-Mechanical Measurement Problem

To review the quantum-mechanical measurement problem, a very old subject, in less than an hour is not an easy task, particularly since I want to add in the last part of my discussion some new ideas. In this first section I shall briefly describe some background from quantum mechanics, although the paper will not be self-contained. But first let me say in a few words why there is a problem, why physicists are all puzzled by some rather obvious facts.
