AN EXPERIMENTAL VALIDATION OF THE TIME-VARYING INITIALIZATION RESPONSE IN FRACTIONAL-ORDER SYSTEMS

This paper provides an experimental validation of the required time-varying initialization response for fractional-order systems. The experiment considers thermal conduction in a long aluminum rod, whose thermal impedance can be approximated as a half-order integral. Experimental results using seven different history functions are compared with theoretical predictions. The experimental results compare well with the expected theoretical predictions. Deviations from the theoretical predictions are discussed.© 2011 ASME
