Modeling and Simulation in Composite Materials: Integration from Nanostructure to Component-Level Design

The current special issue topic ‘‘modeling and simulation in composite materials’’ is intended to capture the recent advancements in the area of modeling and simulation in composite materials. The articles that appear under this topic describe theoretical models, molecular mechanics methods, finite-element methods, and multiscale methods for mechanical and thermal properties of composite materials. Review articles on the use of multiscale methods for composite materials, properties of metallic nanowires, and thermal conductivity of hollow particle filled syntactic foams have been included. The rapid growth in the usage of composite materials has made it necessary to summarize the progress made in the modeling and simulation fields and thus determine future perspectives.
