Survey of and modular construction possibilities for maturity approaches in the field of patent management

Abstract In this paper we introduce and relate elements as building blocks of five different patent management maturity approaches to construct an organization-specific practice. For this purpose, we identify differences as well as commonalities of patent management related maturity approaches published since the beginning of this millennium. Each of these approaches is based on different assumptions, methods, and application domains. We analyzed these approaches from a systems perspective, thereby allowing corporate and business management to decide which building blocks to select and adopt in assessing and developing their strategy and organization in terms of patent management maturity.
