Recruiting Young Engineers

According to our survey, 40% of respondents did not know anything about the pulp and paper industry. Of those who knew, 23% had commented that there are potentially interesting jobs in the industry related to controls, and 23% had a negative image about the industry. We can conclude that the declining number of young engineers choosing pulp and paper as their desired career is due to their attitude toward the industry and a perceived lack of opportunities. The problem lies in the communication - or lack thereof - between the industry and these young engineers during their university years. It is with a simple recruitment plan and the determination to fully implement it that young engineers can be better educated about the industry, and hence, would start including pulp and paper as one of the industries they would consider for their career.
