Ethical Issues Concerning Disclosures of HIV Diagnoses to Perinatally Infected Children and Adolescents

BACKGROUND Healthcare workers (HCWs) often disagree with caregivers or parents about whether, when, and how to disclose HIV serostatus to perinatally HIV-infected children, yet the critical ethical, moral, and legal issues involved and their interplay have been underexplored. The purpose of this article is to bring attention to this increasingly important issue and the complexities involved, and to provide a framework for considering disclosure-related challenges. adolescents
