Engineering Laboratories, Leicester. ~1 ~ Introduction Experimental work using two small cabinets to determine the degree of visual clarity obtained when comparing good colour rendering tubular fluorescent lamps with high efficacy lamps, was described in a Research Note in Lightning Research and Technology 1, 259 (ig6g). These experiments showed clearly that, for the conditions of the experiment, °~.olor-rite lamps give a higher degree of visual clarity than high efficacy lamps for the same illuminance. However, as the results might be different in real situations in rooms, it was decided to extend the study.
