Method and apparatus for updating a travel time estimation

An independent vehicle traffic traveling time information system for a vehicle in an ad-hoc network between vehicles comprising a vehicle on-board broadcast unit for communication with other vehicles within the ad-hoc network between vehicles. A positioning device identifies the position of the vehicle over an entire driving history. A vehicle on-board processing unit stores road segments over the entire car travel. The vehicle on-board processing unit determines a start position and an end position for each respective road segment. A length of time for running through each respective road segment is determined. A storage device stores the segmented sections of road and the travel time associated with each respective road segment. The vehicle on-board broadcast unit spreads the specific timetable of recently traveled road segments via a broadcast message to other vehicles within the ad-hoc network between vehicles.
