Operational frequency tuning for meander-line antenna fed by coplanar waveguide with finite ground plane

For a purpose of tuning the operational frequency at UHF-band, a printed meander antenna was discussed for the reception of the terrestrial broadcasting TV. This antenna consists of a meander-line fed by a coplanar waveguide with the finite ground plane. From the analyzed and measured results, it was found out that the operational frequency of this antenna was able to be controlled by changing the size of ground plane. The measured return loss of the meander antenna with a ground plane of 65 mm times 40 mm was larger than 10 dB in the frequency ranges from 400 MHz to 700 MHz. It was confirmed that the proposed meander antenna has capability to apply into the mobile and indoor terrestrial broadcasting TV antenna from the viewpoint of evaluation of a carrier noise ratio for analog terrestrial broadcasting channels. And moreover, it was obvious that the size was reasonably small to be used for such applications because this antenna was made by 1.6 mm-thickness dielectric substrate with an area of 80 mm times 100 mm.
