Abstract We proposed a collaborative Petri net (CPN) model for multi-agent systems (MAS) operating under contract net protocol. The CPN model proposed extends our previous results. By exploiting the structure of the CPN, we characterized a liveness condition for it and proposed a structural decomposition method to test the liveness condition. In addition, we also analyze the fault tolerant property of CPN to characterize tolerable resource failures in MAS based on the concept of critical path.
