The subfamily Scarabaeinae is one of the best studied and most diversified groups of Coleoptera, with ca. 6,200 species, 267 genera (Tarasov and Génier 2015), and 11 tribes (sensu Bouchard et al. 2011). This diversity is mainly concentrated in the tropics, at elevations ranging from the sea level to 3,500 m (Morón 2003).
