Group velocity dispersion measurement using supercontinuum picosecond pulses generated in an optical fibre

A novel method for measuring group velocity dispersion has been proposed which uses supercontinuum pulses generated in an optical fibre. Group delays over a continuous 1200–1395 nm wavelength range have been measured simultaneously for two optical fibre samples. The method features instantaneous graphical observations of group delay against wavelength characteristics and needs no interpolation formula.
