The 1996 United Nations' Commission On International Trade Law Model Law On Electronic Commerce And Guide To Enactment

The United Nations' Commission on International Trade Law (hereinafter UNCITRAL) was formed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1966.1 UNCITRAL has undertaken many projects since that time.2 The projects have dealt with the important issues of international commerce, including arbitration, the sale of goods,3 bills and notes,4 and letters of credit. 5 UNCITRAL even prepared a resolution on the legal value of computer records in 1985.6 UNCITRAL recognized early that computers have a profound influence on the day-to-day conduct of business. Something had to be done to harmonize domestic laws and to eliminate barriers to take advantage of computers, a technology that knows no boundaries.
