Sensation Seeking among Medium- and Low-Risk Sports Participants

Sensation seeking of 35 participants in a medium-risk sport (rugby) and of 32 in a low-risk sport (marathon running) were compared. The rugby players' estimations of the risk involved in rugby were lower than the marathon runners' perceptions of risk in rugby. Although rugby players scored significantly higher over-all on Sensation Seeking, the only significant difference between the two groups on the four subscales of Zuckerman's Sensation Seeking Scale, was found on the Thrill and Adventure Seeking subscale, on which rugby players scored significantly higher.
