Controller and pulse generator based on SHE -PWM for D -STATCOM

Distribution static compensators (D -STATCOM) are an important part of power quality conditioners with their control subsystem playing a very important role in the operation of the D -STATCOM. This paper presents the fundamental principles of the selective harmonic elimination pulse width modulation (SHE -PWM) technique and the hardware and software designs for such control systems. The artificial effect of D -STATCOM was analyzed for various operating conditions. A digital signal processor (DSP) was used to design the controller and pulse generator with the error of phase and pulse less than 0.01°. Simulation results indicates that the equipment will perform well. The 5th, 7th, 11th harmonics were effectively eliminated by the SHE -PWM algorithm. Experiments show that a multiple -CPU system is possible.
