Architectural fabric structures in the refurbishment of archaeological and cultural heritage areas

This chapter aims to provide an overview of the new opportunities offered by widely available technical textiles and membrane structures in increasing the quality of the built environment, both in refurbishment and maintenance of the outstanding universal value of the cultural heritage. The chapter also introduces some experimental studies where the use of technical textiles is a part of trying to improve energy efficiency of and supporting the monitoring equipment sometimes used for historical buildings. A further set of case studies looks at instances where fabric structures play an important role in preserving archaeological areas and allowing the sustainable management of heritage buildings.
