Optimal nonrecursive noise shaping filters for oversampling data converters .II. Applications

A class of oversampling noise shaping coders is investigated for potential application in data conversion, particularly digital-to-analog. These coders use finite infinite response (FIR) noise shaping filters having optimal minimum phase. A general design procedure for the filters is described. The design methods provide a means for designing arbitrary magnitude noise shaping responses, including multiband designs. The resultant filters are compared with infinite impulse response (IIR) noise shaping filters which meet the same set of magnitude constraints. Two examples are given which illustrate that a minimum phase FIR implementation can provide an attractive alternative to that of an IIR.<<ETX>>
